Jakarta – The Indonesian Navy (TNI AL), in this case the First Fleet Quick Response (F1QR) of the Tanjung Balai Karimun Navy Base (Lanal), succeeded in thwarting and arresting four perpetrators of the crime of theft at sea (Sea theft) around the waters of Tanjung Balai Karimun, Sunday (31/03/2024).
The incident started with information that there was a plan to return home of a group of illegal Indonesian Migrant Workers (TKI) from Malaysia who passed through Karimun Anak waters, which the F1QR team managed to detect. After carrying out surveillance for several hours, the ship suspected of being used to commit theft at sea appeared and immediately pursued and inspected the Tekong Pompong ship and the ship’s cargo.
From the results of the examination, the perpetrator said that his gang had carried out the theft of a barge on Tugboat Sumber VII. The evidence found was cable tros rope, dampra, riding-buoy. Apart from that, several other pieces of evidence were also found which were allegedly used as a means of stealing, in the form of a hacksaw, machete and hammer.
When this news was published, the four perpetrators and a number of pieces of evidence were taken to Lanal TBK Pier to carry out further investigations and legal proceedings.
On a separate occasion, Chief of Naval Staff (Kasal) Admiral TNI Dr. Muhammad Ali conveyed to all ranks of the Indonesian Navy to respond quickly and increase high levels of awareness of situations that may occur, as well as synergize with relevant agencies and stakeholders to take firm action against legal violations that occur in maritime areas.
